Who We Are
Patina Wealth was formed when we saw an opportunity to provide a more client-centered approach to financial planning and investment management. We have and always will be selective in our growth, ensuring our clients get the attention they deserve.

I founded Patina Wealth for one reason; to provide objective and transparent investment advice to my clients. Having worked in the investment industry for 24 years, I have gained a diverse experience working at a large brokerage firm and at a regional Registered Investment Advisor before founding Patina Wealth.
I focus my practice on working with clients who seek assistance investing their assets, helping to build their nest egg to enable them to live a secure retirement lifestyle. I also help small business owners determine which type of retirement plan best suits them and their employees. The fiduciary responsibility I have is what drives me to provide honest and transparent investment solutions for my clients.
Originally from Richmond, I graduated with a degree in Finance from Virginia Tech. After graduating I worked in Richmond until my family and I moved to Crozet in 2012. I strongly believe in giving back to our Crozet community and am the co-founder of the Crozet Car Show which raises money for local charities each year.

I joined Patina as the Director of our Richmond office in 2018 and have worked in the finance industry for more than 15 years. I was excited to reunite with Sam after having met in 2006 while working for a Registered Investment Advisor in Richmond. I truly enjoy my role as an investment advisor, fostering meaningful relationships with my clients and helping them obtain their long-term goals and achieve personal success.
Before Patina, I most recently spent seven years with Xenith Bank, first as an Analyst in the Washington, D.C. office before moving back to Richmond to serve as Vice President on Xenith’s Commercial Banking Team. I grew up in Richmond, VA and later obtained a B.S. in Business Administration from Washington and Lee University where I played both basketball and football. I currently serve on the Junior Board of The Faison Center and as a mentor at Anna Julia Cooper Episcopal School. Outside of the office, I enjoy staying active on the basketball court or the golf course and exploring everything Richmond has to offer with my wife Jackie and two young children.
Our Portfolio Philosophy
-
Diversification
We believe a portfolio benefits from broad diversification across multiple asset classes. In addition, Patina Wealth uses a “sector overlay” approach where we overweight specific sectors of the equity market as we identify attractive opportunities. Markets will be volatile at times, and therefore, certain asset classes and sector exposures can veer from their original target allocation. We actively monitor portfolios throughout the year, rebalancing back to their target allocations during times of volatility.
-
Fiduciary Standard
Since our inception, we have been a fiduciary for our clients – meaning your interests must be put before our own. We believe this fosters a stronger relationship with our clients and allows them to gain comfort with us more quickly. Our clients know that their portfolio is constructed in a way that strictly benefits them. We are transparent about our investment approach, and are proud to invest alongside our clients.
Our Values
-
Integrity
In keeping with our passion for providing advice grounded in uncompromising ethical standards, we operate as a fee-only independent advisor. This structure ensures that your interests always come first.
-
Trust
We understand that trust is built on the way we treat you and the values we keep. It’s also built on a sound investment philosophy that we believe increases the chances of long-term financial performance.
-
Transparency
At Patina Wealth, we’re completely clear and open about our approach to investing, how we operate, how we’re paid, and what you receive from us in return.
-
Communication
Consistent communication is essential to building a strong relationship and ensuring that your goals are met. We’ll meet with you regularly to ensure that we’re on track to achieve your investment objectives. You’re always welcome and encouraged to contact us at any time for personal attention and expert advice.
-
Accessibility
Our experience has shown us that too often investment advisors become overburdened by accepting too many clients, leading to a rushed, “cookie-cutter” approach to portfolio management and client service. Our goal is to develop strong, lasting, and personal relationships with a limited number of clients, so you can contact us at any time and get the attention you deserve.
-
Discipline
Our disciplined investment philosophy—which is supported by academic research—helps us avoid emotional decision-making that can erode long-term performance. We do this by identifying your goals up front, then establishing a clear path to achieve them.
